On Monday, April 22nd Woodland’s Student Council decided to step outside their regular senate meeting and meet at Matthies Park instead. Here officers, students, and senators alike gathered to celebrate Earth Day by hosting the first annual Earth Day Cleanup.

“Today we are doing our first Earth Day Cleanup. We are going to be going down to Matthies Park and cleaning up and helping around,” said WRSC advisor, Christopher Tomlin.

Event Coordinator and freshmen, Lindsey Rodorigo said, “I thought it would be a good service project to show kids that student council isn’t only for the school but it’s for the community as well.”

“The purpose is to bring student council together and to bring the community together and to do a service project, to give back to the community at large. I hope students can take away a sense of accomplishment of working with community working for community; and showing little things can help out,” said Tomlin.

Rodorigo explains that students spread mulch and helped to pick up the garbage around the park. “I think it went good,” said Rodorigo, “We cleaned up a lot and we all had fun cleaning up the park, spreading mulch, and just making the park a better place.”

So while taking a break from legislation student council members were able to help make a difference in their community this Earth Day.
