Press Release 2013 NJHS Induction Ceremony
National Junior Honor Society 2013
On Tuesday, February 26th, thirty-four Long River Middle School eighth graders were inducted into the Dennis F. Broderick chapter of the National Junior Honor Society, class of 2013.
Students participated in community service activities throughout the year. To be selected, they showed leadership, citizenship, scholarship, character, and service. Their entries were studied and examined carefully by teachers to be sure that these students met all of these requirements.
Beginning the ceremony, former Vice President Alyssa Casson led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance. The principal, Mrs. Jayne Lanphear, and vice-principal, Mrs. Kristen Bernier, introduced the ceremony along with a note from superintendent Tim James. The story of the honor society was told by Megan Dreher and Matthew Hopkinson, former officers, and the symbolic meaning of the candles throughout the ceremony was explained by former president Alexa Casimiro. Jenna Pannone, the new president, talked about the meaning of the Honor Society. Then, Melanie Vieira, the vice president, discussed the meaning of scholarship. The secretary, Alyssa Varesio, talked a little about character, and Allison Mayne, the new treasurer, talked about leadership. Next, two new members of the Honor Society, Stephanie McLean and Alec Feducia, talked about Citizenship and Service.
After the lighting of the candles, Jenna, Melanie, Alyssa, Allison, and Stephanie introduced the new members and their accomplishments individually. Jayne Lanphear, the principal, presented the new members, and then Kristen Bernier, the vice principal, gave us the pledge. As the new members walked offstage, they recieved a handshake, certificate of membership, and performed the symbolic transfer of light with the former officers.
We would like to give a special thanks to Alec Feducia and Stephanie McLean for playing entering and exiting music for us, at the beginning and ending of the ceremony. We would also like to thank Mrs. Kathy Barone, for photographing the new members, and Mr. Steve DiBona, for technical work and videotaping the ceremony.
