Reading Therapy Dogs

The Prospect Public Library started a therapy program over a year ago. The program allows for children who are learning to read to come and sit with the dog while they read. The dogs are trained and go through a special program so that they can pay complete attention to the child while they are reading. This program helps students who are struggling with reading out loud and are worried about messing up. The dog is not there to correct them but only comfort them. The Prospect Library is now up to three reading therapy dogs that come different times and days in order to allow as many people to participate as possible. The Library just gained a new Therapy dog named Gunner. Gunner is a Jack Russell Terrier and is a happy addition to the library. Gunner’s next reading sessions will be on Valentine’s Day, February 14th. For more information please call the Prospect Library to register at 203-758-3001.
