Parental Guidance Review

Parental-Guidance_011

The movie Parental Guidance came to theaters on Tuesday, December 25, 2012. This movie is about a set of grandparents who are considered to be the “other” grandparents. At the beginning the grandparents’ daughter does not want them to come and watch her kids for the week, but after the husband persuades her, she invites them. When the grandparents get there, they meet their grandchildren and learn that their lifestyle is nothing like the one they had grown up with.
This movie stars Billy Crystal as Artie Decker ( the grandfather). The grandmother is played by Bette Midler. Also staring in this movie is actress Marisa Tomei. Tom Everett Scott plays the father and the last major actress is Bailee Madison who plays the daughter of Marisa and Tom.
This movie is a great movie to see with the family. It has laughs for both younger and older viewers. While in the movie theater there was always constant laughing from somewhere in the audience.
While this movie is a good entertainment movie it also has good values on how to find the middle ground when parenting. The grandparents told their child “no”. while these parents would say, “think about the consequences”. It was not until the end when the grandparents really developed a bond with each one of the grandchildren that middle ground was found. The grandparents were able to help the kids achieve goals that their parents either could not see or did not have the tools to do.
This movie shows that no parenting style is perfect and that it is okay to get help from others. It is good to take advice and apply it to your own style. This movie is able to get a good message across while being really entertaining. This is definitely a movie for parents to take their kids to. In the theater that I went to, the audience was composed of young children and their parents and grandparents. Its not a type of movie that leaves the parents asleep while the kids enjoy.
On the rotten tomato rate, 67 percent of the people enjoyed the movie. This movie is ranked fourth in the box office and has gotten 14.6 million dollar in sales so far. It is a movie worth seeing no matter what your age, as long as you want a good laugh.
