As 2012 comes to an end we reflect back on the year and remember the best of the best.

After hundreds and even thousands of songs have been released throughout the year we are left with ten that were the most successful.

According to billboard.com number ten for the most popular song across all genres is “What Makes You Beautiful” by One Direction. This five member boy band has taken the world by storm this year after winning the X Factor in England.

Number nine on the billboard chart goes to “Starships” by Nicki Minaj who in the New Year will be taking a job as a judge on American Idol starting in January.

Eight on the charts goes to Rihanna for “We Found Love” featuring Calvin Harris. This song is also charted as number two on Radio songs.

Coming in at number seven is “Stronger” by Kelly Clarkson. Kelly Clarkson is originally known as the first winner of American Idol but now ten years later she is still holding strong in the music business.

Number six on the charts goes to The Wanted for their song “Glad You Came.” In its peak this song reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100 list.

Ellie Goulding, a newer artist, comes in at number five. This indie pop artist reached number two on the charts in August with her first hit, “Lights.”

At number four is “Payphone” by Maroon 5 that features Wiz Khalifa. This song is also currently at number three for radio songs and four for digital songs.

Number three on the charts is “We are Young” by the newer band Fun and featuring Janelle Monae. This currently follows Payphone on the radio song chart as number four.

Coming in at number two is the pop sensation “Call Me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepsen. This song by break out Canadian artist has reached number one in over twelve countries and peaked in six other ones.

And the number one song for the 2012 year, across all genres and ranked by radio audience is “Somebody That I Used to Know” by Goyte featuring Kimbra.

Along with the most popular songs of the year, come the most popular artists. Ranked from ten to one the top artists across all types of music are: Taylor Swift, Drake, Carly Rae Jepsen, Fun, Katy Perry, Maroon 5, Adele, Nicki Minaj, Flo Rida, and last but not least the number one artist of 2012 is Rihanna.

For top ten albums of the year from ten to one the albums are: El Camino by the Black Keys, Tuskegee by Lionel Richie, Talk that Talk by Rihanna, Babel by Mumford & Sons, Tailgates & Tanlines by Luke Bryan, Up All Night by One Direction, Red by Taylor Swift, Take Care by Drake, Christmas by Michael Buble, and the number one album is 21 by Adele.
So as the New Year approaches take a moment to look back at the best of the music for 2012.
