Interview with Senior Makenzie White

What did you like about the location of this school?

“I really liked the location of this school because even though it is in Ohio, it is only about twenty minutes outside of Pittsburg so the on campus feel is really nice with lots of trees and it has the small town feel. But, even though it has this feel you can also be in Pittsburg within twenty minutes so you get the city feel as well.”

What was the campus like? Did you meet any students? If so, what were they like?

“The campus was really nice. It was a little bit smaller but at the same time it wasn’t too small. I met a lot of people because I went during the school year and all of them were very nice and were willing to share how they felt about the school. I even got to talk to someone who went because her parents wanted her to but now she never wants to leave and she loves it there.”ut

Why are you interested in a school located so far away?

“I never intended on going to a school so far away but when I saw it I fell in love with it and I just knew that it would be a great place for me. Of course I would miss my family and friends but the experience the school is offering me is just an experience I cannot find anywhere else. I haven’t felt this way about any other school yet.”

What was unique about the school?

“Something unique about the school and this was a big attraction for me was that they have a sister school in Austria that they own. All of their students can go abroad for the same price as a normal semester or year in Ohio. Also, I think them being a franscican school and therefor roman catholic, sets them apart because they are really into practicing religion at the school and incorporating it into everything the students do. They’re not just talking the talk, they’re actually walking the walk.”

And what do you mean by, “they’re not just talking the talk, they’re actually walking the walk.”?

“The school doesn’t just offer the opportunity to practice religion, they really embrace it in everything  so there is regular mass but they also have lots of different service outlets to help within the community and the surrounding communities.”

Knowing the majority of your classmates interests, do you think you would be able to reccomend this school to any other student?

“I definitlely would recommend this to others especially if someone is interested in going somewhere where they can continue to practice religion or if they are interested in global issues and service to the communities at large.”

Would you say this school is large into sports or academics?

“The school is probaly more into academics and service. They do have all the different sport teams, but its more of a liberal arts school.”

Why did this school appeal to you more than the other? What didn’t you like that you liked more at this university?

“I did not like Marian Univeristy as much because it was very different. They had a larger emphasis on sports and I’m not that into sports. Also, it was a big communter college which I was not a fan of because you don’t get the same connections with people. It was a really nice school, just wasn’t the one for me.”
