American Idol Season 11 comes to an end

By Jessica Crosby

It’s been a long season for the American Idol producers and contestants. Top two contestants Jessica Sanchez and Phillip Phillips sang their hearts out for the finale part one. With 123 million votes, the winner was revealed the following night.

Before the results were revealed to America, several acts were performed at the Nokia Theater.

There was a lot of collaboration among the Idol contestants and other various stars. Joshua Ledet, contestant from this season, sang with American Idol from season three, Fantasia Barrino.   The two performers sang “Take Me to the Pilot” by Elton John.

Phillip Phillips joined John Fogerty on the stage. The two male singers played their guitars and sang “Have You Ever Seen the Rain” and “Bad Moon Rising.”

Jessica Sanchez did a duet with Jenifer Holliday, from the Broadway musical “Dream Gilrs.” The two female belters sang “And I’m not telling you I’m not Going.”

Legendary singer, Chaka Khan sang with the girls from the top 12. The 59-year-old super star sang “I’m Every Woman” with the female Idol contestants.

Not only were the contestants collaborating, but the Idol judges performed for America too. 42-year-old pop singer, Jenifer Lopez took the stage and performed her new hit “Dance Again.” J Lo also debuted “Goin’ In” with help from Flo Rida and Lil Jon. Lopez also collaborated with Wisin and Yandel and performed “Follow the Leader.”

There were also big surprises. Ryan Seacrest called Ace Young and Diana Degramo to come up to the stage. Degramo and the audience were both very confused about what was going on. Then, Young got down on one knee and  proposed. Flattered, Degramo said “I do” and Young kissed her and put the ring on her finger.

Right before Ryan Seacrest revealed the winner, American Idol’s own Steven Tyler rocked the Nokia Theater with Aerosmith.  The band sang debut song “Legendary Child” and 80’s smash hit “Walk this way.”

After a long night of performances and surprises things got serious. Sanchez and Phillips joined Seacrest up on the stage for the results. Tension was high while Seacrest was being handed the envelope with the winner’s name in it. As the lights dramatically dimmed, Seacrest opened the envelope and revealed that Phillip Phillips is the season 11 American Idol winner.

After being heard, the news streamers fell from the ceiling and the crowd went wild. Phillips performed his hit single “Home” and then season 11 came to an end.
