New Woodland Theater Production this Weekend! “Once on this Island”, March 30th and 31st

“Once on This Island” is this Weekend!

The next Woodland Theater production is almost here!

The cast has been rehearsing hours every week for this production of the musical, Once on this Island, which is the unique story of a poor girl who falls in love with a prince of the upper class in the “Jewel of the Antilles”, or Haiti.

The show will finally go down this weekend, Friday March 30th at 7:00 p.m., Saturday March 31st at 2:00 p.m. and again at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are five dollars for students and ten for adults, and they may be purchased at the door.

This week, the actors and stage crew have been working for three hours daily to prepare for the show.

“The cast has grown really close,” said Woodland Theater actress Kasey Smith. “We’re honestly a big family, those onstage and behind the scenes.” she added.

Once on this Island will be different from Woodland’s past few productions in that it has a new director: Chamber and Choir Concert teacher, Sean Lewis. The show also has a choreographer, Jen Mazzeo. Several members of the cast agreed that the dancing was their favorite part of the show.

Woodland theater actress Alyssa Korzon is the dance captain for the production, helping the others get the moves down. This will be Korzon’s fourth Woodland Theater production, and she is excited to be a part of this show. Previously, she played the lead role of Terri Randall in the production of the play Stage Door, directed by Theater teacher at Woodland, Susan Cinoman. Korzon definitely has a passion for the stage.

“Theater brings out my confidence,” said Korzon. “I love to take on new roles because it allows me to take on a completely different mindset and see life through someone else’s eyes,” added Korzon.

The life that the audience will see come Friday and Saturday is very different from our own, and the show should definitely be an eye-opener.
