UConn Men Having Some Troubles

The UConn men’s basketball team has a strong reputation for being a powerhouse when it comes to college basketball.

They also have a good reputation for achieving academic excellence and balancing basketball with school work.

But now the Huskies don’t have either of those as their tough season had brought on some more bad news.

They now have become ineligible for the NCAA tournament for next year due to poor academics.

The NCAA tournament is the biggest event of the year for college basketball, as the tourney starts as sixty-four teams and dwindles down every day until there are only two teams left in the championship round.

The UConn men have claimed the title only three times (1999, 2004, and 2011) but are always a tough team to beat.

Many have blamed the tough season on UConn head coach Jim Calhoun.

This twenty-five year coach is a Connecticut legacy, and at age sixty-nine, he has had his share of health problems.

This year has been especially rough for him as his health has made him absent for a large amount of time after the start of the season. Already having trouble winning games Calhoun’s health problems couldn’t have come at a worse time.

At a record of 18-12, the Huskies find themselves at number nine in the country and after a few good wins against Villanova and Pittsburg it looks like the Huskies have found a good rhythm.

And it couldn’t have come at a better time as the Huskies next game is the first round of the Big East tournament. (Vs. DePaul)

UConn is also a prominent team when it comes to the Big East tournament, as they have one it seven times. (Same as Georgetown University)

The Huskies are doing a great job overcoming the struggles that they have like not having a head coach for a little while and having such young players starting on the team. With only four seniors on the UConn roster, the factor of leadership is lacking and for a mostly sophomore team they really aren’t doing that bad.

The team as a whole has mostly relied on star players like sophomore Jeremy Lamb, and clutch shooter, Shabazz Napier. Also leading the team has been Alex Oriakhi, Junior Forward.

Now with Calhoun recovering from surgery and back with the team they have a good chance as anyone to excel in the NCAA tournament.
