Alcatraz

Makenzie White

“On March 21st, 1963 Alcatraz officially closed. All the prisoners were transferred off the island. Only that’s not what happened—not at all.”
On January 16, 2012 the new TV show, Alcatraz, aired on Fox for the first time.
Receiving 7.6 stars from IMDb, Alcatraz has started off on a respectable note.
Alcatraz is a science fiction show based on a prison camp called Alcatraz. It was open in the 1900’s and it held the world’s worst prisoners. And then in 1963, all the prisoners and guards mysteriously disappeared.
49 years later the criminals are starting to show up again. The only catch is, they have not aged at all.
Main character, detective Rebecca Madsen, stumbles upon the cases and pursues them with great curiosity.
She quickly obtains herself a partnership with Dr. Diego “Doc” Soto who is living expert on Alcatraz.
It’s not long before the two stumble upon Emerson Hauser, a government agent. With Madsen’s dogged personality she pushed Hauser until he agrees to allow her and Doc to work with them. He explains how all the people from Alcatraz that escaped are coming back and are continuing where they left off.
The only thing to do is catch them all before it’s too late and to return them to their rightful home—Alcatraz.
The three attempt to capture every criminal one by one until these criminals no longer walk the streets as the three attempt to figure out where these jailbirds  have been for the past 49 years.
With only four episodes in, the show is still brand new to TV.
Fox estimated that 10.05 million viewers tuned in during the first episode. It has turned out to be the best series premiere Fox has had all season. However, most series premieres loose about 15-20% of the viewers who do not come back for the second episode.
Yet, Alcatraz only lost 9% and was able to hold onto most of the viewers for the next couple episodes.
In the top six shows of the network for this season it doesn’t look like Alcatraz will be going anywhere soon.
With lots of action and adventure you will be entranced and you won’t want to stop anytime soon. So tune in Monday nights at nine p.m. and find out what really happened inside the walls of Alcatraz 49 years ago.
