Woodland Girls vs. Wilby

As the basketball season nears an end, Woodland’s girls’ basketball team holds strong in order to make NVL’s.

On Friday, January 27 Woodland’s girls faced Wilby at a home game.

As the game started the girls struggled to keep their place. Jess Mofao, head coach, said, “We weren’t ready. We didn’t play our game.”

However, Shannon Meany, senior and co-captain, was able to score foul shot early on in the first quarter.  Meany also comes to the save in the end of the quarter. With five seconds left she makes a shot and puts Woodland in the lead 11 to 10.

In the second quarter, senior and co-captain, Carly Marrotti, starts to earn her team some points.  Within the quarter she helps with several rebounds and shots leading her team to a tie at 19 with Wilby.

After the half time the girls seem to come out with a new fire to win. In the quarter they take the lead constantly upping the score and the teamwork.
With help from captains, Meany and Marrotti and junior player, Alma Rizvani the girls hold strong and end the third quarter with the score of 46 to 27.
In the fourth quarter the girls keep up the teamwork and get shot after shot leading them to the top.
As the coach rotates players in, the girls take the lead and come out victorious with a win of 56 to 36.
“It was a team effort,” said Mofao. With the girls season coming to an end they only have five more games to look forward too.
So far this season they have won four of their eleven games and they still have a chance at NVL’s.
For NVL’s they need to win four of their next five games and then they will qualify.
Mofao said she hopes, “We win, play as a team, and don’t give up.”
