Sophomore class rings

teshlercreative.com

Since class rings originated at the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1835, the tradition has been carried on throughout the United States and Canada.

A class ring maybe significant to a high school student because it is supposed to commemorate their graduation.

As the end of the year is slowly approaching, the sophomore class at Woodland has been introduced to the idea of purchasing a class ring.

Since the school opened in 200l, class rings have been celebrated with a Ring Dance. However, due to the behavior of students at previous ring dances and the lack of money, the sophomore class of 2014 will not be hosting this type of festivity, but instead may be holding a breakfast.

With ring prices up around $200 dollars and no dance to celebrate, some students are thinking of opting out of buying a class ring.

For some students high school is not something they want to remember and a class ring would be a constant reminder. Other students may want a ring, but are unable to purchase one due to the high price.

“I really wanted a class ring,” said Junior, Lindsay Hawthorne. “However, I didn’t want to spend that much money on one.”

While the idea of having a ring may seem like a nice idea, some students do not think they would ever really wear it; therefore it would be a waste of money.

A class ring can be a big investment, and if a student is not sure they would actually wear the ring, it may not be worth purchasing.

However, for students interesting in purchasing a ring they will be available on January 11th, 12th, and 13th outside the cafeteria during lunch waves.

Kind of biased towards not buying a ring.
