College Bowl Games

At the end of the regular college football season, only some football teams get the opportunity to play in a bowl. A bowl is the ultimate goal for any college football team; it is the highpoint in any winning team’s season.

Besides being the endpoint of the college football season the college bowl games also offer insight on prominent college players. One player, senior quarterback Andrew Luck, of the Stanford Trees in particular.  Luck, has been rumored to be considered by the Indianapolis Colts who had a tough season this year without star quarterback, Peyton Manning.

Luck lead Stanford, to a total of 38 points, but that would not be enough to beat their opponents, the Oklahoma State Cowboys, in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl. The Cowboys won 41-38.

Another huge game for college players is the Rose Bowl. This year the Oregon Ducks (12-2) defeated the Wisconsin Badgers (11-3), 45-38.

Overtime is the “icing on the cake” for most football games; at the end of regulation time if the teams are tied they go into an extra period of time, where the first team to score wins.

This year in the Allstate Sugar Bowl the Michigan Wolverines went into overtime with the Virginia Tech Hokies. The Wolverines came out on top 23-20, during the overtime.

Another extremely eventful game was the Discover Orange Bowl, which was played between The West Virginia Mountaineers, and The Clemson Tigers. The Mountaineers got a quick start to the game and blew past the Tigers 70-33 an unorthodox score for any football event.

While there is no actual final championship like in professional football but the “BCS national championship is considered the most highly anticipated game of them all, being the final game, of all the bowls. This game especially important since, the LSU Tigers, were undefeated this year with a record of 13-0, and with a win against the Alabama Crimson Tide, they would have the perfect ending for the perfect season.

Alabama had other plans in mind as they held the Tigers to an unprecedented 0 points. The Tide then went onto score 21 points, and handed the Tigers their first and most critical loss all season.
