Worst gadgets of 2011

Tis the season to be jolly, well for most people that is. For others though cheap plastic and useless gadgets put a damper on some people’s holiday joy.

2011 was full of successful gadgets such as the iphone 4s, and the iPad, but the year was also full of tragedy. Gadgets such as the Motorola Atrix’s laptop dock, the Jawbone fitness accessory, and the Blackberry play book were among the worst of 2012.

Overpriced cheap plastic played a major role in the down fall of these items.

Motorola’s Atrix Laptop Dock
The Motorola Atrix laptop dock was one of the biggest failures this year.  For an extra $500, buyers could get a laptop shell that did not run unless the Atrix was plugged into it. The laptop dock used an outdated version of Firefox also.  Another major issue with this product is that the version of Firefox that the computers runs does not allow the user to download apps.  All in all this item was one of the worst gadgets to appear in 2011.

Not everything was a “total” fail in 2011. Even some gadgets that did not quite make the cut had cool concepts and with a little reworking can maybe become great.  For example, our next entry:

Jawbone’s Up Fitness accessory
Jawbone’s Up Fitness is a little rubber bracelet wrapped around the wrists of a user and can monitor sleep, meals, and fitness schedule.  Then when all the data is compiled it can be uploaded to an iPhone application to be viewed.  Sadly though this gadget did not live up to its expectations.  The gadget did not completely work and Jawbone had to give full refunds to whoever purchased one.

The final dud of the New Year and Christmas season was the Blackberry playbook.

Blackberry Playbook
This interactive tablet was just like the iPad except except it was a complete failure.  The Playbook cannot even send email, making it a waste of money for most users. According to http://www.mytechteam.net/2011s-worst-gadgets/ the gadget has sold so poorly that dealers have refused to sell the 3g and 4g models.

These devices sum up the worst gadgets of 2011,  teaching buyers to be careful of what you purchase because what may cost 1,000 dollars may only be worth 20.
