Pep rally encourages school spirit once again

By Jordan Tolnay

BEACON FALLS — It is known as the “biggest” day of the year, Pep Rally. Although most Pep Rallies are just for the main sport, usually football sometimes Lacrosse, it is done a little differently here at Woodland Regional High School.

Pep Rally here is a competition for spirit week. The classes; freshman, sophomore, junior and senior compete against each other to see which one has more School Spirit.

Most students get pumped up and ready to cheer on anything for their class. This year the seniors made a sign that said “We’re doing it right” and to get back at them the juniors made a sign that said “You’re doing it wrong”. Other students painted their chests with
school color and class spirit.

There are many competitions that take place during Pep Rally. Like the screaming contest, to see which class can yell the loudest, this year the juniors won. This was exciting because usually the seniors win almost all of the competitions.

Another unexpected turn that Pep Rally took was that the sophomores beat the seniors. This was during the Black and Gold contest, to see which class shows the most school spirit by how many of them wear the school colors. The sophomores had more people wearing more colors and won. Most of the students in that class got excited, which is expected.

But some take it just a bit too far. When the sophomores won the contest one of the students ran across the gym, not to, but at the seniors.

The rules say that you need to sit in your assigned bleachers with the rest of your class. Other rules state that you need to have your chest covered, which some students broke, and painted their stomachs black and gold.

If you break any of these rules you will be kicked out. Only one student, this year, was kicked out of Pep Rally for breaking these rules. Other than having a student kicked out, it was said that this year was one of the best pep rally’s Woodland has had yet.
