Boy’s Tennis NVL’S

It was up to each individual tennis player at the boy’s tennis NVL’s on May 28, 2011 at Woodland Regional High School.
Each player on the Woodland tennis team was looking to make all NVL’s. In 2011, the team was extremely successful. They went undefeated with a record of nineteen wins and zero losses and were crowned as NVL champs.
Tennis NVL’s for boys are a lot different than every other sport. Each player plays for themselves in order to advance to the next round, whereas in other sports the team plays together to advance. Players had to win their match; otherwise they would instantly be eliminated.
At two o’ clock, matches began. Teams sat under tents to protect themselves from sun while they cheered their hard working players on.
By 4: 30, some players on Woodland’s team had faced defeat, but sophomores Patrick Dietz and Kyle Beynor were onto their second match. Senior Mike Krakowski took powerful swings and was able to easily his opponents. The doubles team, Dietz and Beynor, were advancing to the final round along with Krakowski.
Krakowski would be playing for the title of number one singles player in the NVL and Beynor and Dietz would be playing for the title of number one doubles team.
The final round took place at Sacred Heart, so Woodland did not get the home team advantage.
Beynor and Dietz worked together against their hardest opponents; Wolcott. Their motivation and endurance kept them in the game, but they could not win the match. But, they are only sophomores and know that in the future they can become the number one doubles team in the NVL. They were given silver medals, and despite their tough loss, they were extremely happy that they had even made it this far.
Krakowski was able to end his senior year as the number one single’s player in an amazing way. He defeated Crosby’s number one player, someone he had lost and tied earlier in the season. He was awarded with a gold medal and he was the first boy’s tennis player to be awarded with a gold medal.
Woodland’s entire tennis team was extremely successful, whether they had won or not. Next year, the entire team hopes that they can become all NVL and follow in Krakowski’s footsteps.
