Glee Club Performance a Success

With the hit show Glee becoming a favorite of Ally Tuohy and Rebecca Norton’s last year, they chose to recreate it as their senior project.

“Last year Rebecca and I would talk about the show and thought it would be cool to have a club like that at our school so we decided to make it our senior project,” Tuohy said.

Glee is a show that aired on Fox and focused on the school’s glee club while they compete in choir. It also brings viewers through the typical life of teenagers.

Involved in the senior project as actors were Tuohy, Norton, Sam Savvidou, Alexa Steinis, Dan Lyons, Morgan Smith, and Corrine Marshall with a club name of “Downbeat”.

Downbeat was hard at work as a team since November 1st up until the day of the performance which was on June 3rd. Along with having a successful practice, the group had to choose the right music.

In the end, the choices of music came down to “I Want You Back” by Jackson Five, “Save Me San Fransisco” by Train, “When You’re Gone” by Bryan Adams, and “That Don’t Impress Me Much” by Shania Twain.

However, getting all of the music coordinated was not as easy as just playing the songs. “I had to arrange the background vocals for some of the songs, and transpose Save Me San Francisco so that it would be in a more comfortable key to sing in,” explained Tuohy.

The songs were rehearsed without the choreography first, then the dance moves came along which everyone contributed to.

They would listen to the songs first and then Tuohy would play everyones part on the piano and once that was down, Downbeat moved on to the dance moves.

After months of hard work, it had finally paid off. Tuohy and Norton were pleased with how their senior project played out and how many people came to support.

Not only was it a good performance, but the money raised went to a good cause. “In my eyes, it was all worth it,” Tuohy stated.

Tuohy’s father was diagnosed with Myeloma in 2000. Norton and she both felt it would be appropriate to donate the 5,500 dollars raised to the International Myeloma Foundation who has done so much for the Tuohy family.

Not only did everyone have fun with the show, but this senior project also taught Tuohy a lesson.
“I think it is a good thing that students have to create a senior project. It taught me that if you put your mind to something, great things can happen,” said Tuohy.
