Woodland Sports Update

The spring season for Woodland sports is well underway and all teams are having their fair share of success.

The softball team is currently 12-3 with their newest win coming from their game against St. Paul. The Hawks took the victory winning 24-7. Senior Lindsay Boland had four hits along with four scored runs. Junior Emily Wirsing had three hits, one of which included a homerun. Junior Alyssa Skibo also contributed with three hits and three runs for the game.

The three of their losses came from Ansonia, Seymour, and Holy Cross. The Hawks look to keep their wins coming with their next game against Watertown at Pent Field on Monday, May 9th.

The Woodland baseball team is currently 6-9 with their latest victory coming against St. Paul where they won 16-3. Senior Ryan Mariotti had four RBI’s and scored three runs. Senior Sean Deegan had three hits, three RBI’s and two runs scored.

The Hawks look to gain another victory against Watertown away at Deland Field on Monday, May 9th.

The Woodland Boy’s Tennis team is currently undefeated with a record of 14-0. Their newest victory came against Wolcott where they won 7-2. For singles, Senior Mike Krakowski defeated opponent Jon Ramirez with a score of 8-4.
Sophomore Kyle Beynor defeated Mario Zizolli 8-3. Sophomore Stephen Pec defeated opponent Felipe Macado with a score of 8-2. Junior Jimmy Tompkins defeated Brandon Cepelak with a score of 8-1.

For doubles, Krakowski and Murphy defeated Ramirez and Zizolli 8-1. Dietz and Beynor defeated Tansley and Cepelak 8-3. Pec and Tompkins defeated Karpicki and Chris Skayem 8-1.

Their next match is away at Watertown on Monday, May 9th.

The Woodland Girls Tennis team is currently 9-5. Their last match was against St.Paul where they suffered a loss, 6-1.
For doubles, Sophomore Liz Martin and Senior Amanda Oliviera defeated opponents Jaclyn Latvis and Monica Palmieri 8-4.

Their next match is home against Watertown on Monday, May 9th.

    Woodland baseball is pretty good.. prolly going to be our toughest competition in the state tournament…
