Take the Pledge

As everyone is quite aware bullying is a very prevalent issue in today’s society.

To help students realize their place in bullying, on April 28th people from Albertus Magnus College came to talk to sophomores during advisory.

The assembly started off with drama students such as Sara Hughes, Ryan Romanski, and Kate Bento performing a skit. The skit was about two kids trying to get to their seat and the bully not allowing them. While it started as a verbal fight it soon became physical.

After the scene ended the lights dimmed students eyes focused in on a video or a high school shooting due to bullying.
The emotional video came to an end it set a serious tone for the assembly. While a school shooting is the worst case scenario the goal is to never let it get that bad.

As the assembly went on leaders like Traci Conway talked about how students could make a difference.
Throwing out different ideas students helped brainstorm ways to be a buddy and not a bully.

As the assembly came to an end all students were asked to sign a pledge. The pledge stated that the students would not bully and would stand up for the people being bullied.

All students were asked to come up on the stage and sign the pledge board and receive a gift bag. The bag included a pen from the State Trooper’s office, and a no bullying arm band.

As the students crossed the stage a video played in the background reminding them of the change they were all attempting to make.

High school sophomore, Eric Gomez felt, “the assembly was rather powerful for the short time slotted for it.”
Most students wished they had more than thirty minutes at the assembly but either way the assembly was deemed a success.
