Improv All the Way

As the lights dimmed the audience’s eyes focused in on two chairs in the center of the stage. The curtains opened and there stood Jeff Casolo and his cast.
As the time for senior projects arrives one can find many different ways seniors contribute to their community. Jeff Casolo, senior at Woodland, decided to have an improvisation show. This took place on March 29th at 2:30 in the auditorium.
Casolo explained to his audience that improvisation, or improv., is a form of acting in which the actor or actress makes it all up on the spot.
Joining him on the stage were fellow senior class members: Allison Tuohy, Corrine Marshall, Lauren Tremaglio, Malcom Zawacki, and Kate Bento.
To demonstrate improvisation the planned several activities slash games that they would run through.
The first was a game called park bench. In this game two chairs were in the middle of the stage representing the bench. One person would sit on the “bench” and another would come sit next to them. The one who came to sit next to them had to do something so repulsive that the other person would be forced to leave the bench.
Ideas ranged from pretending to be a transvestite to literally crawling under the person’s chair to compliment their shoes. The audience at this point was given the opportunity to join the game at any time they wished.
After a couple rounds of that they switched to a game where there was a couple on a date and the male was going to propose to the girl. Before the scene started the audience shouted out suggestions of types of movies. When Casolo called pause in the scene he would switch the type of movie. Marshall and Zawacki made the quick changes of Disney musical to Japanese action film.
After the game came to an end they started a game where two people would have a conversation and one could only speak in questions. As the audience joined in talking in questions became harder and harder.
The next game they did was a party scene. The host of the party left the room and the audience gave each attendee a role. They ranged from an escapee of an insane asylum to Rebecca Black.
As the time went on more games were played with the audience’s participation. Overall the senior project was a success with amusing scenes ranging from a soap opera to a McDonalds line.

This was such a funny show! I loved it so much! Jeff was so hysterical. He is probably the funniest kid I have ever seen. I am so glad that I attended the show because I would have missed such a good time 🙂
