Skype vs Oovoo

Many students at Woodland Regional High school have used the applications Oovoo or Skype.

Both are applications that allow the user to webcam or web chat with other users. In recent debate though people are starting to wonder which one is the better application.

Skype is used by millions or companies and people around the world. This makes Skype a better source for people and companies to use because with more people on it, it allows for easier and faster communicating.

Skype is also very user friendly and simple to figure out and adapt to.

“One of the only reasons I use Skype is because it’s very user friendly and I was to get used right away” Dolly Gugliotti a Skype user states.

Another reason that Skype is used very often is because it is multi-platform and several type of computer supports it. This means that a person on a Mac can download Skype and it will function just the same way as if it was downloaded on Windows.

Now with all great things there is an also a great weakness. Skype has few disadvantages but some might find these the difference between which is better.

Sadly this first disadvantage mostly affects the companies first. Skype is not so friendly to corporate needs. Many companies use this site but it’s very difficult for them to use it. This is why Skype is mainly for use of talking to a few people not a large amount of people.

Skype also has a very bad and unreliable outbound connection. This makes call quality very bad and difficult to talk to one another.

Now Skype may be the dominant application at the moment but its competition Oovoo is coming up right behind it making for a good ole Rivalry.

Oovoo seems to be used mostly by people to just talk and catch up on things.

Oovoo has great call quality making for easy communication and smooth flowing video and allows up to 6 ways conversations unlike Skype’s only one on one conversation.

Also Oovoo allows the recording of videos which allows journalists to record an interview or companies to record important meetings.

Another way that Oovoo is raking in people across the world is they have free calling to all around the United States and to Canada.

Now Oovoo also has some flaws. After a bit of snooping around and asking a few people the main one and only flaw seems to be that oovoo is down alot causing some aggravated users.

    Quality Communication

    The communication in this world
is now same way at all times —
    Great, sadly smooth quality.
    Good, friendly.
    Few disadvantages.
    The catch?
    People in this world
are now the same way at all times –
    Great, sadly smooth quality.

I’ve used both before. I’ve never had any difficulty with oovoo in the years that I’ve used it, but anytime I try Skype, my call has been “dropped” at least twice during the conversation. Once, it dropped me five times! The difference seems pretty clear to me.
