Increasing Popularity of Tumblr.com

Social blogging sites are becoming a popular way for teenagers both, boys and girls, to effortlessly share words, pictures, quotes, videos, audio, links, or conversations. In just one click you can share what you do, love, think, wish or create and Tumblr.com is one website that allows you to do just that.

Started three years and eight months ago Tumblr.com was a website unknown to many teenagers, but recently Tumblr accounts have become very popular. As of 3:30pm on October 20th, 2010 Tumblr had 360,409,483 posts, 7,607,113 of those posts were just from that day, refresh the page and you’ll see these numbers increase.

According to Tumblr.com the average Tumblr user creates fourteen posts a month, and three reblogs. Reblogging is when you repost what someone else has already written. Although the site may at first be confusing it’s easy to catch on and you never run out of things to blog about with “challenges” such as the thirty day challenge. Many Woodland students choose to participate in these challenges and when asked why one student stated, “The thirty day challenge gives me something to write about.”

For some teens though, Tumblr is also a way to connect with others. “People from Tumblr are getting together all over the world,” according to the website. Finding people who are going through similar experiences to your own allows teenagers to open up even more easily.

Tumblr is like an online diary. Teens write mostly about relationships, family, friends, school, personal problems, their days, lives, or anything else they wish to share with the world. They may also commonly share quotes, videos, or pictures. For many teenagers sharing your emotions can be difficult, but Tumblr.com allows you to see you’re not the only one facing these difficulties and anyone is welcome to blog.
