Facebook For School

Ever wish that Facebook was accessible in school? Well now it is…well something similar is.

Schoology is a new website that combines the best of Facebook and Edline. It was developed for students and teachers to “combine social networking with learning management to help you easily create and share academic content,” according to the website.

Many students at Woodland Regional High School use Schoology already. Those that are a part of the journalism program all have an account. This allows them to be connected with each other without being in the classroom.

The process for enrolling on schoology is not hard at all, and once a student has “enrolled” in the class of their choosing they can start playing around on the website.

Students are allowed to blog, post messages, and chat with people in the same group or class as them. This is the Facebook aspect of the site. The school information that is posted on the site brings in the edline portion of it.

Schoology.com is a nice change of pace for many students because it is so easy to use. Many find that edline.com is too confusing to use although it is their primary resource for school related problems.

The layout on Schoology.com is similar to that of Facebook.com which is easier for students when they need to find their homework for that night.

The site is fairly new, but is being introduced in several places other than the journalism classes.
English teacher, Paul Geary, is using schoology with his classes such as A block Honors English. He posts the assignments for the night on there, and posts questions that students can discuss based on the readings that happened in class.

Most students enjoy using this new site as an alternative to edline.
Brian Ries, a sophomore and schoology user, says,” I believe Schoology is the next way to communicate with your teachers and fellow classmate in an easy and efficient way.”
