Senior Projects are an important step to graduating from Woodland Regional High School. Some seniors collect cans, others organize fundraisers or assemblies to get the word out about certain charities and organizations.

However, Mohamed Shitia, senior at Woodland Regional High School decided to do something a little different: organize a ping pong tournament. He could of done anything, but he chose table tennis for one simple reason.

“Ping pong’s awesome,” said Shitia with a smile.

Students and teachers of WRHS signed up to participate in the tournament. Each contestant paid seven dollars to compete. All the money raised from the participants and donations were given to leukemia research.

Shitia celebrated  St. Patrick’s Day by finally bringing the ping pong tournament to the Woodland gym. Students from each class, plus teachers Chris Decker, Paul Geary, and James Amato made their appearance and showed off their skills. A bracket was made up on a huge white board, organizing who would face off whom.

After a couple of hours of back and forth table tennis, seniors Stephaine Badale and Calvin Day were brought to the championship game, held on Friday, March 19th. The champion had to win two out of three games in order to recieve the trophy. The award to the first Woodland Ping Pong Champion went to Calvin Day.

Now, Shitia is one step closer to graduation after organizing a successful senior project.
