How to Save a Life

Doug Aldrich, Woodland senior, is conducting a First Aid Seminar for his senior project.  “I chose this project because I am a volunteer MRT at Wolcott Volunteer Ambulance and I really enjoy this type of work.  I would like to help others with the knowledge I learned,” Aldrich commented.

Attendees will be instructed on how to perform CPR, use a defibrillator, immobilize a broken bone and open an airway.   Aldrich, the volunteer EMTs and Paramedics will be teaching this event.  “It will be set up in stations, so it won’t be a boring lecture and PowerPoint,” stated Aldrich.  This seminar will be approximately 3 hours long.

He hopes that by taking part in the seminar, students will learn the basics on how to help someone in emergency situations.  It is almost like learning how to be a “good Samaritan” with the knowledge of these life-saving skills.

“I perform and enjoy these types of tasks on how to perform CPR, immobilize a broken bone, and bandaging injured people.  You enjoy the satisfaction when you save a life,” Aldrich commented.

Aldrich’s senior project will be held on Sunday, March 14, 2010.  The seminar will be held at the Prospect Fire House on 26 New Haven Road (Rt 69) in Prospect at 1 pm.
