Recycling at Woodland

Schools across Connecticut are mandated by state law to recycle paper goods. At Woodland, recycling bins have been placed in most of the classrooms to meet these requirements.

However, there is one student at Woodland that taking this “go green” philosophy to the next level.

Kaiti Lembo, a senior at Woodland, recently began her senior project to help increase the amount of recycled waste products at WRHS.

In the cafeteria there is now one recycling bin for students to use. This is to encourage students to recycle as opposed to just throwing something in the trash.

“This is just the beginning,” said Lembo, “once my budget opens up I hope to get one bin on every floor.”

Lembo’s plans for the future include the recycling of all white paper in the school.

Although this project has had minimal advertising, once it is made more public Lembo thinks her project will implement recycling among the student body.

Slowly, but surely, this senior project will generate the desire to recycle.
