When in Rome: A Hopeless Romantic’s New Favorite Film

What makes the perfect romantic comedy? How about Rome, Italy, the city of love? Add in a tall, tan, and dreamy Prince Charming. And the final ingredient, a magical fountain that makes conceited, creepy, artsy magicians fall in love with a clumsy workaholic. Yeah, that will do.
When in Rome, the new romantic comedy starring Kristen Bell and Josh Duhamel, has all of these components, making this hit movie a fan favorite. With its funny scenes, unique characters and its share of “aww” moments, this movie is a hopeless romantic’s dream come true.
Kristen Bell plays Beth, a woman passionate about her job with relationships the least of her worries. “When I love a guy more than my job, I will know he’s the one,” is this main character’s philosophy. Beth has been hurt by every guy she has let in, forcing her to give up on love and the fantasy that Prince Charming is out there. Bell was both witty and hilarious as her character. She was also very relatable to any girl bitter about romance. It was refreshing to watch her take on the subject, instead of a desperate airhead crying about her need for a man in her life.
Josh Duhamel is the hunk in the film. He plays Nick, the irresistible and dreamy guy we find in all romantic movies. He’s got the beautiful brown eyes, the height of a model, and always knows the right thing to say to make a girl fall head over heels. Yes, he’s that guy, and I’ve got to say that Josh played him well. Audiences will definitely fall in love at first sight with him, and fall deeper with each passing scene.
For all the hopeless romantics out there, your new favorite movie is waiting for you in theatres. You’ll love the cheesy yet funny dialogue and the chemistry of the leading duo. If romantic comedies aren’t your cup of tea, I suggest a different film to watch. This movie was entertaining and definitely had its laugh-out-loud moments, but it should be kept with the fantasizing teenage girls or the moms and grandmas who want a refreshing look at young love.
