An Addiction to Video Games

It is a shame when you see kids sitting inside all day playing nothing but video games. Their lives are controlled by the addictive, yet competitive nature of the games.

Parents are becoming too lenient with their children, allowing them to play video games all the time and they are becoming addicted. Parents should limit the amount of time that their children play video games.

In some cases, adults are the ones that have become addicted. Adults all over the world are also losing their jobs because of video game addiction. The online game, World of Warcraft, is a big culprit in the video game addiction world.

Senior, Mike Duncan, a former World of Warcraft addict, said “When I played I would play five to eight hours a day. The most I ever played was 11 hours straight”. Now that is an addiction.

According to kidshealth.org, an addiction to video games is also a factor in weight gain. American kids spend all the free time they have in front of a television screen instead of playing outside. All they do is sit in their rooms play video games. Some intense video game players say that the games help improve hand eye coordination. Freshman Joe Masulli, an avid video game player, said, “They have some value to an extent and teach you about situations that can happen in the real world. A good example is Call of Duty.”
Kids should limit the amount of time they play video games so it does not become a serious addiction.
