Step-By-Step Guide to Spirit Week

The Student Council has been working hard to make Spirit Week better than ever. Since the point system is working differently than past years, questions have been asked and people have been wondering. Your questions will finally be answered; and if they’re not, leave a comment and we will comment you back.

The theme of Spirit Week 2009 is “Time travel.” There are going to be numerous of events for the entire student body at Woodland to participate in to win the Spirit Shovel. Every class has a fair chance to win the spirit shovel; however it is going to require more than just yelling on the actual day of pep rally.

Event number one: Can Food Drive; It will be starting Monday November 16th and ending November 24th in which every student has the chance to bring in a canned good during lunch and advisory. There will be a box with your grade on it, and the grade with the most canned food will earn 40 points, 2nd place 30, 3rd place 20, and last place 10.

The points earned from each event will go toward each class in winning the spirit shovel.

Event number two: Homecoming; There is no obligation or points earned for attending Homecoming but it is a great way to have fun and have school spirit. The theme of the dance is masquerade; tickets are on sale NOW until the 19th of November. The tickets are $10.00 a piece and all profits go to the Student Council.

Event number three: Dress Up; On Monday every student at woodland gets the opportunity to dress up “In the Future.” This is a time where each class can be creative. The class with the most percentage of students dressed up will receive 40 points 2nd place 30 3rd place 20 and last place 10.

Event number four: School- Wide Volley Ball Game; On Monday after school the games playing will be Freshman vs. Seniors and Juniors vs. Sophomores. Winners play winner losers play losers. The winner of the game gets 40 points toward the spirit shovel 2nd place gets 30 3rd place gets 20 and last place gets 10.  Sign-ups are during lunch next to the Homecoming tickets.

Event number five: Hall Decorating; Monday will also include decorating for the large event of hall decorating. Supervised by the class advisors, groups of people will be contributing to make each hallway a different time period.

Seniors will have 80’s Juniors will have 50’s Sophomores will have 70’s and Freshman with 20’s. Each hall will be judged by a panel of faculty, out of: creativity, presentation of theme, and realistic. The class that wins will receive 80 points. 2nd place 60 points 3rd place 40 points last place 20 points.

Event number six: Dress Up; what also contributes to Tuesday will be dressing up as your themed hall. The panel of judges will go around during advisory to figure out the class with the most percentage of students dressed up. The class with the most percentage earns 40 points 2nd place 30points 3rd place 20 points and last place 10.

Event number seven: Bonfire; the football team will be holding a bonfire at the rec which will be open to all students and parents. This is not an event that is contributing to the spirit shovel, but it will be a time to pump up the players for the big game.

Event number eight: Pep Rally; the biggest day is Wednesday! But there are many ways to earn points.

Black and Gold Dress Up; this is where you are able to truly show your Woodland Spirit by covering yourself in black and gold. Any woodland shirt counts toward dressing up at pep rally. The class with the most percentage of dressed up students will receive 40 points, 2nd place 30 3rd place 20 last place 10.

Sign Decorating; Each class will receive a sign earlier in the week to decorate, and the sign with the most creativeness will win 40 points 2nd place 30 points 3rd place 20 points and last place 10.

Class Competition; Every year Pep Rally has included the Freshman/Sophomore Three Legged Race and the Junior/Senior Tug of War. Whoever wins these competitions will win 40 points and the loser will get 20.

School Pride; This is the time where each class gets a designated time to scream and yell to beat out the other classes. Make sure you do not use noise makers. The class that wins earns 80 points 2nd place 60 points 3rd place 40 points last place 20points.
