Log Jams Up Drivers

Around 2:15 each day, the traffic in Beacon Falls gets hectic due to students and sometimes teachers  rushing to leave Woodland.

Yesterday was no exception as a surge of strong winds knocked down several trees. The power was knocked out in a section of the downtown area of Beacon Falls.

A large tree had fallen across several sections of power lines, causing the power to go out therefore the Fire Department to be called.

The Beacon Falls Police Department had to close down both sides of Main Street until crews from the Connecticut Department of Transportation could be called.

The Connecticut DOT was required to come out and cut down the tree, which required them to cut power, because that section of the road is State maintained.

The road was closed from approximately 1:45 yesterday to approximately 7:45 last night.

Traffic from the school was held up by the exit to route 8 north onto main street.

Traffic was backed up all the way to Pinesbridge Road. Students were sitting in their cars until the time when they could finally break free of the traffic.

After a just enough time to make people aggravated. Thankfully the local traffic directors allowed people to make a  U-turn and go back the other way.
